Spring Garden Programs at Glebe House Museum & The Gertrude Jekyll Garden

As we enter our eighth decade of the museum and garden, staff and volunteers of the Seabury Society for the Preservation of the Glebe House, Inc. are pleased to present a number of programs that focus on our unique Gertrude Jekyll Garden.

Join Jane Brook Barba, a gifted garden designer and teacher at the New York Botanical Garden, for two informative workshops that every gardener, whether experienced or novice, will want to attend.


Saturday, April 26th--  The Art of Cottage Gardening
Workshop will take place from 10a.m. to noon at the Glebe House, with refreshments. (See ticket info under 6/28).
 
Saturday, April 26th--  Spring Into the Season Volunteer Party--5:00 p.m.
The Board of Directors invites volunteers to an appreciation party at the Museum.  Please RSVP by April 20th.

Thursday, May 15th -- Container Gardening Workshop
Workshop will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Gertrude Jekyll Garden at the Glebe House. Back by popular demand, Jane Brook Barba’s evening workshop will introduce novices to container gardening and inspire experienced gardeners with plant combinations and designs that will delight. Plants will be available for sale and participants will end the workshop with a glass of wine in the Jekyll Garden.  (See ticket info under 6/28)

  
Saturday June 28 -- Restoration, Preservation & Conservation
in a Historic or Revival Colonial Garden
Gertrude Jekyll Garden at the Glebe House Museum    10:00-12:00
The cost per lecture will be $26/$21 members per workshop, or $65 paid in advance for the series of three lectures and may be reserved in advance by calling 263-2855.  

Tuesday, May 6th -- "Friends"(Volunteers) Evening Meeting--5:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 4th -- Living History Day--1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Experience 18th century daily life with our costumed docents and junior docents as they perform tasks of the Marshall Family in the 1770s.

Thursday, May 15th -- "Friends"(Volunteers) visit Hammond Museum

Wednesday, May 21st -- Homeschool Day--9:30 a.m. to noon
Home school children and their families are invited to spend the morning touring the museum and experiencing hands-on activities of the 18th century. Cost $6.00 per child.  Call 263-2855 for more information.

, May 25th -- "Friends"(Volunteers) visit march in
the Memorial Day Parade 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Watch our children & adult volunteers march in the parade, then join us for a pot luck barbeque back at the museum.

FESTIVE DINNER WITH FRIENDS
Saturday, May 31st -- Celebrating the Life of Wayne Pratt
Cocktails in the Garden of the Mill House Antiques from 5:30 p.m. to
7:00 p.m.  Followed by private dinners.
Wine, champagne, fine food and good conversation will flow freely at nearly a dozen intimate dinner parties Saturday, May 31st, benefitting Woodbury's Glebe House Museum and Gertrude Jekyll Garden.  Guests will be treated to an elegant cocktail party in the private gardens of Mill House Antiques.  Sarah Shinn Pratt is honorary chairperson for the evening's events, which will 'Celebrate the Life of Wayne Pratt' who served on the museum board, and along with Sarah provided friendship, expertise and financial sponsorship.  The evening is sponsored by Bennett Sullivan Associates, Mill House Antiques, and The Seabury Society for the Preservation of the Glebe House, Inc.

Fees from the event, $150 per person, will help support innovative educational programs, maintain and restore the house on Hollow Road and its collections, and support the renovation and maintenance of the Gertrude Jekyll Garden, the only extant work by England's most important garden designer in the United States, commissioned in 1926.

June 14 – Connecticut Open House Day-- 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Connecticut Residents are invited to tour the museum at a reduced rate and all are invited to join us for lemonade and cookies in the garden.

June 22– Connecticut Historic Gardens Day
-- 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
11 of Connecticut’s historic gardens will be open all across the state. Garden docents will be available.


SUMMER CAMPS START JUNE 23rd--make plans for 2008:

Our summer camp program, now in its 18th year, offers children ages 6 – 14 a multitude of experiences in a safe and rich environment. Be a part of the fun with these camps. Camps run from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Space is limited, so call the museum for more information or click here for a PDF brochure from our 2008 program.
